Quilt News: Bright Sampler Finish, Happy Thanksgiving, Log Cabin Block QA with Carolyn Freidlander or Temecula Quilt Co.'s Down Home Darling!

where we have sun and cool temp.s!

And a wonderful Thanksgiving was enjoyed here by all.

This week I finished hand sewing the binding onto my Bright Sampler Quilt started in 2018, a BOM, 'Times of Refreshing' by Piecing the Past Quilts Co.

I chose my own colors, block arrangement and border treatment.

I've been working on it for a while off and on, it's hard to believe it's finished!

And, always looking ahead, I decided to do a QA by Temecula Quilt Co., their 'Down Home Darling.' It's a Log Cabin block quilt and I enjoy piecing log cabin blocks, liberated or precision.

I'm adding some liberated piecing just to shake it up a little.

The centers are the traditional red square ( differing sizes) in prints.

Also, a quilt friend of mine, Debbie, who blogs @  A Quilters' Table is going to be Quilting Along with Carolyn Friedlander's Modern Log Cabin Quilt.

I'm going to keep a close eye on her progress and maybe start off in that direction soon.

The design is modern and I would call it 'liberated' and exciting for sure.

We went to the local Christmas Tree Farm on Friday and wouldn't you know it Santa showed up in his BMW.

He officiated over the hot cider and I had to get a photo of his great smile.

That is the Quilt News from the valley, where we are remembering to be thankful!

And progress is being made! 

I'm hurrying less and enjoying the simple things in life, 

after all, it's beginning to look a lot like Christmas.

Page 43 in BH&G Christmas Ideas, gray is classic with these colors.

Quilt News from the valley!

Where temperatures have dropped and it's a windy day!

Color of the month according to my color calendar is gray. Gray is a perfect neutral, it can go light or dark and support any color combination.

I chose a photo from BH&G Christmas Ideas 2020 to show lovely, sophisticated gray perfectly supporting a flower arrangement of red, green and white.

Great issue too!

I'm hand stitching the binding onto my Bright Sampler quilt, it's hand quilted, started a couple of years ago. Hand stitching the binding is a little tedious but I take breaks often and keep mixing projects up so as not to get burned out.

Also my small Summer 2 quilt is finished. I hand quilted it and used the backing for binding and hand stitched the binding down.

And that quilt friends is the quilt news, where progress and a finish and appreciating the color gray has been on the agenda.

Quilt News, Pumpkin Patch Visit, New Patchwork Hand Quilting and Binding, Quilted Zipper Bag Finish

Quilt News from the valley! 

and yes, the photos are mixed up to spread the color around, and I still haven't figured out how to rearrange them without loosing them. Where do they go anyway?

We visited the local pumpkin patch, enjoying the scenery, we didn't stay too long, it still gets warm here in the afternoon.

This week I used up scraps piecing fabric together for a zipper bag to hold sewing tools, it's much easier to keep everything in a bag. That's called organized I believe. I use MSQ Co.'s zipper pouch tutorial.

Then I used scraps from my Summer 1 small quilt, featuring the primary colors, to piece another small quilt, Summer 2. For Summer 2, I pieced half square triangles and made four Broken Dish blocks on the right side. I'm still reading through 'Free Range Triangle Quilts' by Gwen Marston and Cathy Jones, published by AQS. It's full of great inspiration!

And that quilt friends is the news, where progress is being made and I'm spending a lot of time playing with my grand daughter, very important!

Happy October 1st, and my color calendar color of the month is, yes, orange! I believe it's one of my favorite colors, I'm being careful with my words so as not to cause jealousy among the other colors.

I've mixed my photos in no particular order just so I liked them color wise. 

And today I went with my daughter in law to the local HomeGoods store and enjoyed the fall decor and the pumpkin spice candles, you can never have too many of those.

Fall has not forgotten to come and bless us with hope and cheer, of course to all those willing to partake, it's a free gift after all.

This week I've had time to piece and plan, working on several projects at the same time. As you can see I also looked back on some of my previous projects knowing I had used a lot of orange in them.

Also note I have added another book by Gwen Marston and Cathy Jones, Free Range Triangles, in my list of good, inspiring quilt books in the right column.

And that is the quilt news from the valley. Where pumpkins are appearing at the local farmers markets.

Quilt News and it's September almost fall!

My color calendar color of the month is brown. It's a color that's everywhere, sometimes easy to overlook. I've posted photos with brown objects we see all the time, brown adds depth and fullness. 

This week I got the Nine Patch border pieced onto my Summer 2 quilt. I used light shirting plaids with Kona Cotton solids, a blue calico and grey bird print I found at Jo Ann fabric several months ago.
I'm planning to add a few more borders. All the fabrics are scraps and pieces I've used in other projects.

And that is the news from the valley where the color brown is being appreciated. I'm still studying neutrals and brown tucks neatly into that world.
I have Yoko Saito's book, Patchwork Bags and Accessories, published by Stackpole Books, the collection of brown, neutral and taupe fabrics used in the projects is gorgeous. It's a great book for appreciating construction techniques and beautiful, Japanese fabrics.
