Hand quilting my liberated four patch log cabin quilt with perle cotton 8. |
I've been pouring over my copy of Kaffe's book, Heritage Quilts, a Rowan publication. |
Design by Kaffe Fassett, 'citrus zigzag ribbon', colorway by Corienne Kramer. |
Happy Friday and weekend!
This has been a busy week for me with projects and work,
but good all the same.
I'm hand quilting my liberated four patch log cabin quilt with cotton perle 8 which is a treat to work with. This quilt is inspired by Gwen Marston's book, 'Liberated Quiltmaking II. That's one book I find myself 'working through' over and over again.
I'm also taking Gwen Marston's online class, Abstract Quilts in Solids, through iquilt.com .
Excellent class, I highly recommend it. She is a pleasant, clear instructor. I make it a priority to study good teacher/instructors so I can be a better teacher/instructor.
Kaffe Fassett's book, 'Heritage Quilts' is also great. He showcases his fabrics, always thrilling, and has new takes on some historical quilts, fun. There are some beautiful medallion quilts in his book I'm drawn to.
I overheard a retired military man say this, 'Peace is a state of mind.'
It starts one person at a time doesn't it?
Happy Friday!
The writers and publishers of the books you find insipiration in, and the online instructor, too, must be so pleased to see what great results you produce.
ReplyDeleteDo you really find it easy to quilt with perle? I think it starts fuzzing up quickly and I need to use very short strands to avoid the thread breaking.
Yes, peace, as well as most other things, IS a state of mind. With your mind in control you can become an Olympic champion, a successful dieter, a top politician, the happiest person on earth, anything really...
Thanks, Queenie. Yes, cotton perle has been working for me. It's easier to work with than 3 strands of embroidery floss for sure. What do you use for hand quilting?
DeleteBeautiful bright colors! It's is always so nice to see what you are working on.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Pamela.
DeleteI went to a quilt show last week Janie and there were so many beautiful, jewel like fabrics they reminded me of your wonderful work. You would have been like a child in a candy store....
ReplyDeleteYou're right Karen, it would've been a blast. Thanks for thinking of me.
DeleteI don't know why, but I often find myself thinking about sherbet when I see your work. Will have to see if our local library might have a copy of the Kaffe book.
ReplyDeleteSherbet tastes good and comes in tropical colors, can't beat that!
DeleteI'd love to see your take on a medallion quilt, Janie! The handquilting on your log cabins is looking gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Kaja.
DeleteI was thinking about that too, a medallion quilt would be just the thing.
I'm working on shoo fly blocks now, nine of them. Thinking about a possible
next project helps the piecing go faster.
