Rows I have finished for my sampler quilt, sashing will go between all rows... |
Shoo Fly blocks will be the final row in sampler quilt... |
August!! Fabulous month!
Why is that? Because of the gorgeous peaches and watermelons being sold at the local farmer's market that's why!
I'm piecing shoo fly blocks, the last row of my sampler quilt I'm making because I took an online Craftsy Quilting Class, Colorful Scrap Quilting, by Amanda Jean Nyberg of crazy mom quilts .
I had fun with the class and I'm putting my own spin on the sampler quilt because I can never follow directions exactly, I always say, 'What if I try this instead?' or move this over here or make this block liberated instead of traditional? Almost done with it.
Also new in the online quilt world are MSQC/Jenny Doan's newest youtube tutorials, Quilt Snips.
They are quick single block tutorials. Such a good idea for freshening up your memory or for a new quilter working through a new block.
Have a great weekend!
Support your local farmers and enjoy fresh summer produce, cause it's delicious.
Great sampler! Peaches and watermelons are my favorites.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Pamela, you've got some beautiful sewing sets @ http://hokkaidokudasai.blogspot.com/2016/08/the-alphabet-club-i.html.
ReplyDeletePlenty of local fruit and vegs in Japan. Especially now there are peaches, watermelons, nashi pears and grapes. Delicious. 'Delicious' is also the right word for your colourful blocks. It will be a vibrant sampler!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Queenie. Fruit is one of my favorite color inspirations.
DeleteNow my mouth is watering! I love that you are putting your own twist on the sampler as you go and am really looking forward to seeing it all come together.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Kaja, isn't the design process fun, all the possibilities!
DeletePeaches and watermelon! Definitely two of my favorites, but I love fruit and veggies of all flavors.
ReplyDeleteYour sampler is so pretty and colorful. I have Amanda Jean's book and love to read her blog. She is such a fun inspiration! And who doesn't put their own spin on a quilt? That's where the fun is! And it's looking like you're having great fun with this lovely sampler.
Thanks, Mary. I was able to put your blog on my 'inspiration' list, thanks.
ReplyDeleteso many rows, each one equally as lovely as the one before....
ReplyDeleteThank you, Karen. Your modern embroidery pieces are looking so good!
DeleteThis is going to be a real beauty when you get it finished! I happened to be poking around through the local library on-line catalog and I noticed they have a book called 'Moda All-Stars All In A Row' which I plan to borrow, just to read more about the row by row quilts. Here's the Amazon link if you're interested... https://www.amazon.com/Moda-All-stars-All-Row-row/dp/1604687290
ReplyDeleteThank you, Mary Ann. I'll look that book up, I think 'row by row' makes a good quilt too.
